  • WOW! As I am in the market for new speakers I just had the great pleasure to demo several brands with the most time generous owner, Dave. The selection of gear is overwhelming in an extremely good way. More choices than one can possibly imagine. Dave was attentive not pushy and had great knowledge of each speaker I demoed that day, as he did with all his other gear. A laid back super friendly listening experience.

  • I wanted to give a very positive shout out and thanks to Dave Lalin at Audio Intellect in Jersey City, NJ.

    I found my way to Audio Intellect based on a thread here in Audiogon. I wanted to add my positive comments to that thread. The initial contact with Dave was by phone and he is very responsive and easy to reach. We had several initial conversations about what I was looking for and dates/time for a visit. I was eager to hear the Quad speakers and other brands that he carried.

    I took the drive up yesterday and spent three hours with Dave who was very welcoming, extremely knowledgeable and good humored. I had intended to spend only an hour or so I was sensitive to his time. But three hours later we were still talking.

    Dave is very generous with his time and passionate about the brands he carries. He wanted me to hear everything – from his smallest, least expensive systems to his “big rig”, a truly stunning system consisting of the Paradigm Pesona 9H with T+A electronics. This system was absolutely stunning. One of the ten best I’ve ever heard. Here I could toss in the usual bushel basket of hyperbolic adjectives but I’ll spare you that. Suffice it to say that the system nailed it and got everything right. I was gobsmacked! Then we settled down to hear his midrange wares, in particular, the Quad Z3 and the smaller Paradigm Persona speakers. The whole session was very revealing and worthwhile. And finally, he wanted me to hear his KEF-based surround system, which is located in a dedicated home theater in the basement of his house. And here the term “home theater” must be taken literally because his vast inventory of brands is located in multiple rooms in a lovely Victorian house. The KEF surround was a stunner. An extremely well balanced, fully tweaked out, totally involving piece of art and technology.

    This was a great way to end a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Thank you Dave. And thank you for being one of the few remaining fully equipped bricks and mortar hifi solons still standing.

  • Wow, What a spectacular shopping/learning experience. The amount and verity of different equipment to listen to is astounding. Dave’s knowledge and passion are contagious, he knows so much and is willing to share his knowledge as well as let you experience the difference in sound from each of many vendors. One of the things that amazed me was how different the sound is when changing just the amplifier. Listening to different equipment is the only way to make a knowledgeable decision about how you are going to build your system and how you are going to spend your money. Dave’s listening rooms and his willingness to let you participate in experiencing the sound make it very comfortable and enjoyable to listen and learn.

  • I had a very unusual but wonderful experience visiting Dave, the Audio Intellect. Unusual by means of his home and business in a Victorian home in Jersey City. I arrived 15 minutes early for an 11am appointment on Sunday and was greeted by his down to earth and friendly wife. We spoke for about 15 minutes discussing this old Victorian home while Dave was getting prepared for my arrival. She offered something to drink and I asked for a cup of tea in which she complied graciously. The house was set up with a large variety of top named components in different rooms ranging in prices from affordable to very expensive. I didn't feel I was in a showroom but in a friend's living room which added to the experience.

    Next up, Dave himself, one of the nicest and enthusiastic person you want to meet. For the next 2 hours we spoke about audio equipment and his knowledge was quite impressive. He worked at some of the high-end audio shops in Manhattan I use to visit with my brother back in the 70s and 80s. I felt as if i was speaking to an old friend. I guess we both got caught up in our interest and enthusiasm of audio equipment that I almost forgot why I was there in the first place. Not once during this time period did Dave try to sell anything. The next hour we discussed music servers and Dacs and did some listening.

    But what blew me away, Dave offered to bring some components we discussed to my home to audition. Wow, talk about great service! After over 40 years of auditioning audio equipment at many showrooms in the New York area, I cannot recommend a better experience and the hospitality of the Audio Intellect.
